Dear colleagues and friends,

On behalf of the Organizing Committee and of the Timisoara medical specialists, it is my great honor to welcome you to the 26th National Congress of the Romanian Society of Surgery, which will be held in Timisoara, between the 23rd  and the 26th of May, 2012.
Timişoara, a 700-year old historical center, now in a stage of accelerated economical development, with an intense social and cultural life, is a city of congresses due to its existing facilities – access points, conference centers, accommodation offers.

It is our desire for this Congress to be characterized by the interactive dialogue, the high scientific level and we will do our best to make your stay in Timisoara memorable.

The field of surgery has known a rapid development in the last decades, as a consequence of the astonishing progress medical technology has made. All this determined the establishment of new standards in the surgical practice which should become a rule for every specialist. The 21st century surgery has a new approach, focusing on more specialized fields, and gathering experience, significant by volume and performance, which will lead to the selection of excellence centers.

We wish to create the opportunity for all the Romanian surgical specialists to share their knowledge and experience and bring home a new idea at least, if not a new concept.

Prof. Dr. Fulger Lazăr
President of the 2012 CNC Local Organizing

Dear colleagues,

As you know, our future Congress, organized by the Romanian Society of Surgery, will take place in May, in Timisoara. This wonderful city has been the host of numerous medical events and has a valuable team of surgeons, with an exceptional professional standard.
The surgical tradition of Timisoara goes 300 years back in history, with Meinz and Mendlingher (1718-1728), Misericordians Hospital (1737) with the surgeon Franz Reihard and the Municipal Hospital (1757), contemporary with “Sf. Spiridon Hospital” from Iași (1757).

In 2012, out hosts will rise to this mission’s high expectations and I assure you will benefit of beautiful spiritual moments. I take this early opportunity to invite you to think of the papers you will present, of the courses held for our young specialists and of the surprises that will not lack.

The future elected president of our society will be designated and we will improve the status of our society, which has grown old. The local organizing committee is already working for the success of the Congress with renowned specialists. Professor Lazăr Fulger and his colleagues will meet the high expectations. It will be a pleasure to see you again at the Congress.

Prof. Dr. Vasile Sârbu

President of the Romanian Society of Surgery

Distinguished colleagues,

As expected, the topic of the 2012 National Surgery Congress - New standards in surgery- is a generous one. What is expected of those attending the Congress?
Evidently, to express their opinions regarding the improvement of surgical results by reducing post-operative morbidity and mortality. This is every surgeon’s dream, especially nowadays, when alternative therapeutical procedures are available, as a result of an unbelievable technical progress.
In this century of discoveries that are destined for destruction, the surgeon is the one that preserves from the progress only what may serve for the benefit of mankind.

The topic choice is, as previously mentioned, a very fortunate one. It will allow the rational organizing of diverse surgical, laparoscopic, endoscopic and therapeutical attitudes into a logic system, which will offer a better surgical expertise. New ideas will be generated, the ones already inveterate will be refined and will transcend in news standards.

With the strong certain that the Congress will be an indisputable success, I would like to thank beforehand the Organizers from Timisoara and every participant for their effort which will transform currently audacious ideas in absolute truths of the future.
